My Tree of Me x Canva: A Family Wellbeing Workshop

My Tree of Me began as a simple idea that children, young people and families deserve accessible, meaningful spaces to explore their wellbeing together.

This February, we brought that idea to life through our first pilot workshop, delivered at Canva's London HQ as part of Children's Mental Health Week 🎉

What the workshop looked like

My Tree of Me is a creative wellbeing workshop designed to support connection, confidence and emotional expression.

For this pilot, we worked with children aged 10–13 and their parent or carer. Using guided art and storytelling activities, families created their own "Tree of Me" to explore identity, strengths, relationships, and hopes for the future.

No art skills were needed. The focus was simply on creating space to reflect, connect and express together.

Creating the space

A space designed for creativity, reflection and connection.

We wanted the space to feel calm, welcoming and creative from the moment families walked in.

There's no such thing as perfect, but we really cared about getting this right! Our founder and lead volunteer took the room set-up seriously… from making sure there were plenty of materials to choose from, to rearranging tables and chairs (more than once 😅) to create a space that felt relaxed and inviting.

Materials were laid out across the tables so children and families could explore freely, pick what they were drawn to, and make the space their own.

From the set-up to the flow of the session and the goodie bags, everything was intentional, creating an environment where children and families could feel comfortable exploring, sharing, and just being.

What we learned

This pilot gave us the opportunity to listen, observe and reflect.

Here's what we're taking forward:

  • Listening to children, young people and families helps shape meaningful support

  • Accessibility means creating spaces that meet people where they are

  • Collaboration strengthens community impact

  • Building something meaningful takes time, intention and care

What families shared

The feedback reminded us why this work matters:

“Thank you for creating such a beautiful space for my children to understand themselves; their identity, their roots, and who they are. They were completely absorbed from start to finish, and absolutely loved the packs and take-home items. It genuinely felt like every detail had been thought through with the children in mind. I really hope this continues. Spaces like this are so needed.”

Small moments like these reflect something bigger: the importance of creating spaces where families can slow down, connect and feel supported.

Looking ahead

We're taking these learnings forward by:

  • Refining how we reach our community

  • Developing future workshops and sessions

  • Continuing to build accessible, inclusive spaces for children, young people and families

This is just the beginning ✨

Thank you

This pilot wouldn't have been possible without the support, time and contribution of others.

With special thanks to Jane, DBJ Studio, Canva, and our volunteer for helping bring this space to life. We're super grateful how the pilot turnt out!
